Vampire Academy Book 1 and 2 - Richelle Mead

Rose Hathaway, a dhampir (part human and part vampire), is Lissa Dragomir's (a Moroi princess) best friend and guardian. After discovering a potential danger to Lissa's life, Rose decides to take Lissa away from the St. Vladimir's Academy to take her out of harm's way.

After spending nearly two years with the humans, they're forcibly taken back by the Academy's guardians. Back at the Academy, Lissa can't help but once again feel the dark and unknown powers that threaten to shatter the calm and safe cocoon that she's built for herself over the last couple of years.

With boys left and right trailing after both girls, and teachers and guardians surveying their every move, lest they make escape from the Academy again, Rose vows to do everything to keep Lissa safe - for she knows she's the only one who can do so.

I refuse to give a summary of the second book, Frostbite, since well... that would be spoiling you for what's to come. :)

I gotta say, the books covers are quite ugly. They definitely could have done better. Especially when readers are likely to base the book's content on it. I guess the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover", very much applies here. Because yes, it's super exciting - full of plot twists and turns so unexpected that you can't help but want to turn to the next page to read what happens next. You want a mystery/thriller? A story perfected down to the tiniest details that you'll marvel at the author's imagination? A bit of romance on the side as well? Then, Vampire Academy's a great pick!

P.S. There's a third book already (entitled Shadow Kiss), which, hopefully, I'll be able to read within the next few days.

And a little character spoiler which I can't resist giving out:

Christian is sooooooo cute!!!! I might just start replacing my OME (Oh my Edward) with an OMC. :p
