Becoming Jane - Movie

Now, I'm one step closer to completing the Everything Austen challenge. Yay for me! :)

Basically, the movie focused on Jane Austen's life before she wrote her novels (or maybe in the process of writing them). More importantly, the movie centered on Jane Austen's supposed relationship with Tom Lefroy. Keep in mind though that this is a bit fictional. While Jane Austen and Tom Lefroy did know each other and maybe even had a bit of a well, 'something special', I think the movie, maybe, exaggerated it a bit.

As a Jane Austen lover, I really enjoyed the film. I could totally picture Anne Hathaway as Jane and James McAvoy was just superb! I mean, what is up with that guy?! It's like you can give him any role and he. can. deliver. (Now, I'm fangirling. LOL.)

A bit of a spoiler here, so you may stop now. :)

It just seems so sad that Jane Austen, who continues to delight us with such romantic stories and wonderful heros like Mr. Darcy and Captain Wentworth, didn't get to be with her one true love. A bit sad, don't you think?

The Summoning - Kelley Armstrong

My name is Chloe Saunders and my life will never be the same again.

All I wanted was to make friends, meet boys, and keep on being ordinary. I don't even know what that means anymore. It all started on the day that I saw my first ghost—and the ghost saw me.

Now there are ghosts everywhere and they won't leave me alone. To top it all off, I somehow got myself locked up in Lyle House, a "special home" for troubled teens. Yet the home isn't what it seems. Don't tell anyone, but I think there might be more to my housemates than meets the eye. The question is, whose side are they on? It's up to me to figure out the dangerous secrets behind Lyle House . . . before its skeletons come back to haunt me.

That's not quite what's on the back of the book that I read, but it's the only one I could find on the net so I guess it'd do. :)

I've never really read a book that's centered on ghosts before (at least, I don't remember reading anything like it). But I've heard a lot of good things from other bloggers about The Summoning so I, being a bit of a pushover when it comes to books, went ahead and bought a copy. And who could resist that lovely cover?! :D

Now, I'd love to thank all you reviewers out there! It didn't disappoint! There definitely was no dull moment for me while reading it! Chloe, the protagonist, is the kind you'd totally love yet she's not without flaws that she seems almost unbelievable. I'm glad that the author gave importance not just to Chloe, but to the other characters as well. Though not much about their lives were related in this book, it's obvious that more of their secrets will be revealed in the next books in the series.

BTW, if you're like me who's always waiting for that (ehem) cute male character to come into the picture, you won't be disappointed! Simon! :)

To all you bookworms out there who's not really one for scary stories (like me!), try it!

Marked (House of Night Book 1) - P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

After two weeks, I've finally had the time to post a new review! Yay! Sorry 'bout that but I've been so busy with school work these days. Anyway, I just finished this book a couple of hours ago so I made a random decision to review this first despite my long list of to-be-reviewed books. :)

A little something from the back of the book:

The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do.It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx.But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

First, let me just say that I absolutely loved the book cover! The really intricate pattern was such a nice touch! Now on with the review. :)

When I first saw that the authors were actually a mother and daughter pair, I couldn't believe it! I guess I can't really imagine how that would work in writing a book. But based from Marked, I think they did okay. How the story was written was pretty good, even amusing most of the time. I'd say they did a good job in portraying Zoey's character. From her narration alone, you get to know her better and maybe even like her (like I did!). My only complaint is that it lacks a bit more action, considering that it is a vampire, or rather vampyre, novel. I'm looking for that 'Wow! I didn't see that one coming!' feeling that I got from say, Vampire Academy or Blue Bloods. But then again, I've said before that I don't like comparing books so I'll stop there. :p

Overall though, it has a great plotline and an interesting take on vampires. I'll definitely be reading the next book! :) More Erik, please! :)
